What do I do with my nikah certificate?
Your nikah certificate is a meaningful heirloom designed to be signed during your nikah ceremony. After receiving your Gilded Press nikah certificate, bring it with you to your nikah ceremony, where it can be completed as part of your marriage proceedings. After the signing, many couples choose to display it at their wedding events, frame it as Islamic wedding art in their home, or preserve it as a cherished reminder of their wedding day.
What is a nikah certificate, and is it Islamically valid or just for display?
A Nikah certificate is a wedding contract signed by the couple that records their Islamic marriage and serves as a record of their Nikah ceremony. It typically includes the signatures of the bride and groom, the witnesses, Wali and officiant as well as the Mahr.
Our Nikah certificates are thoughtfully designed to accommodate these elements. You can personalize your certificate by adding your Mahr directly through our website, or choose to leave this section blank if you prefer to display your certificate purely as a keepsake.
Many couples choose to customize their certificate to reflect their ceremony, while others preserve it as a beautiful reminder of their nikah.
What is the difference between a nikah certificate and a marriage license?
A nikah nama and a marriage licence serve different purposes. A nikah nama is the Islamic marriage contract signed during the nikah ceremony, recording the agreement between the bride and groom along with details such as the Mahr, witnesses, Wali and officiant. A marriage licence, on the other hand, is a civil document issued by your local government that authorizes a legal marriage under provincial or state law. In many countries, Muslim couples complete both documents, one to fulfil the religious requirements of their Nikah and the other to register their marriage with the civil authorities.

Depending on the design, we may also be able to accommodate colour palette changes, additions or removals of floral and botanical elements, text changes, or more extensive customizations. We also offer fully bespoke nikah certificate designs inspired by your wedding florals, décor, and overall aesthetic.
Please note that all personalization requests must be submitted to us by email before placing your order. Contact us with your requested changes. We’ll review your request within 24 hours and confirm whether we’re able to accommodate it, along with any additional costs or production time that may apply.
How long do customizations take?
Customization requests require additional production time. For colour or text changes, you’ll receive a digital preview within 5 business days of placing your order. Once you approve the final design, your Nikah certificate will require an additional 5 business days for production before it is dispatched.
More extensive requests, such as modifying floral elements, Islamic motifs, or creating a completely bespoke Nikah certificate, require a more involved design process. For these orders, we’ll discuss your vision with you directly and provide an estimated timeline before proceeding.
Please note that delays in approving your preview or requesting additional revisions may extend the overall production and shipping timeline.
What type of paper do you use?
Our certificates are printed on premium textured archival paper commonly used by fine art artists and printmakers.
Our prints are made on heavy, acid-free, and pH-neutral fine art paper. Its substantial weight and tactile finish provide a refined, gallery-quality look and feel that is resistant to yellowing over time.
What material is the frame made of?
Our frames are crafted from durable aluminum in a brushed gold finish. They are designed to resist warping, cracking, and other forms of damage while providing sturdy, long-lasting protection for your nikah certificate.
Please note that the backing of the frame is removable, allowing you to insert and display your nikah certificate. The front panel is made of real glass and is not removable.
What type of ink do you use?
We use premium archival, pigment-based aqueous inks formulated for exceptional colour accuracy, fine detail, and long-lasting print quality.
What is the printing process used for your nikah certificates?
Our certificates are produced using the giclée printing process, a fine-art printing method that uses high-quality pigment inks to achieve rich colour, exceptional detail, and a refined finish. Giclée prints are renowned for their durability, colour stability, and archival longevity, making them well suited for artwork.
How are your nikah certificates designed and what is the process?
Every Gilded Press nikah certificate begins as an original artwork created in-house. Our designs bring together traditional Islamic motifs, tezhip (Islamic illumination) patterns, and carefully illustrated botanical elements to create a distinctive visual language unique to our studio.
Our lead designer, Zarreen, brings a background in architecture, illustration, and printmaking to the design process, influencing the way we approach composition, detail, proportion, and visual storytelling. Individual elements may be drawn or illustrated by hand before being digitally refined, composed, and arranged into the final artwork. This combination of traditional artistic techniques and digital craftsmanship allows us to create intricate compositions with a highly considered finish.
Once finalized, each design is giclée printed on premium archival paper using pigment-based inks for exceptional colour accuracy, fine detail, and longevity. Certificates are then personalized and, where applicable, hand-finished with metallic gold embellishments applied specifically to complement each composition.
The result is a collection of original, one-of-a-kind nikah certificates exclusive to The Gilded Press.
All of our are designs are original and protected under copyright law.
Can my officiant see a preview?
Yes. If you wish for your officiant or mosque to review the certificate, please specify this request in the notes section when placing your order.
What calligraphy will be on my certificate?
Each of our nikah certificate designs display the Basmala and a portion of Surah Ar-Rum hand composed in Arabic calligraphy. The calligraphy is digitally enhanced and transferred to our certificates. If you would like the full Arabic ayah used or a different English translation instead, please add this on the note section of the order form after you choose a design.
What is Mahr?
Mahr/Mehr is a mandatory gift or payment of money, property, or possessions that the groom must give to his bride as an essential part of the marriage contract (nikah). It belongs exclusively to the bride meaning that her family, father, and husband have no legal right to touch, take, or use it without her clear permission.
Your nikah certificate is valid if the Mahr is included, but you can also choose to leave it out if you intend to use the certificate as a keepsake instead.
What if I need to make a change to my order after it has been placed?
Please email us promptly.
If your certificate is already in production, no changes can be made. If needed, a new certificate can be created for a fee.
Upon placing your order, you will promptly receive an email containing an order confirmation. This email will include the information you supplied in the order form. We kindly request that you carefully review the details to confirm their accuracy. If you happen to identify any inaccuracies requiring correction, we urge you to contact us without delay. It's important to note that we cannot guarantee modifications after a 24-hour period has passed.
Will I be able to see a preview of my certificate?
We will only send a text preview if you specifically request it when placing your order. To request a preview, please write “send me a preview” in the notes section of the order form. Text previews are also automatically provided if you choose an extra customization such as text changes, color changes, or a couple’s crest, or select a non-English language text. If you do not request a preview, we will proceed directly with your order and dispatch it as quickly as possible, using the information you submitted on your order form. For the fastest dispatch, we recommend not requesting a preview.
Standard preview requests will be sent via email within 1–2 business days. Orders with extra customization will receive a preview within 3–5 business days. If further edits are requested after the initial preview, a revised preview will be sent within 1–2 business days. Once you approve the final text, please allow 5 business days for us to create your certificate before it is dispatched for shipping.
Important: Requesting a preview may extend the production timeline, especially if multiple edits are needed or if there is a delay in your approval. It is your responsibility to respond promptly to our emails and, if needed, to accommodate any expedited shipping to meet your desired delivery date.
Note: Due to copyright restrictions, the border design is not included in the preview, unless you have requested a color change as part of your customization.
Can we leave the “date”, “location” or “mahr” blank and fill this by hand?
Yes, you can request this in the notes section of the order form when you are placing an order.
Can I change parts of the design?
Yes, aside from our standard personalization options we can change parts of our designs for a fee.
Please contact us with your design change request at info@thegildedpress.com before placing your order. We’ll review your request within 24 hours and confirm whether we’re able to accommodate it, along with any additional costs or production time that may apply.
I don’t know the Islamic date for my nikah, what do I do?
If you’re unsure of your Islamic (Hijri) date when completing your order form, you can leave it blank and we’ll determine it for you using our references.
Due to the Hijri calendar being lunar-based, the exact date can sometimes vary depending on the sighting of the new moon. Dates can therefore be estimated in advance, but may not be confirmed until the beginning of the Islamic month. Please also note that if your nikah takes place after Maghrib, it is considered to fall on the following Islamic day.
If you prefer to provide the date yourself, you can confirm it with your local mosque, Imam, or marriage officiant, or use a reliable online Hijri calendar.
How will my nikah certificate be packaged?
If you have ordered just the certificate, you will receive your order rolled in tube with layers of protection. If you have ordered a frame with your nikah certificate, it will be shipped flat in a box with protective layers.
My nikah certificate came in a shipping tube, how do I unroll it?
In some cases, your nikah certificate may arrive rolled in a shipping tube. If it does, gently remove it from the tube and with its protective plastic sleeve still on, lay it face down on a flat surface. Place heavy weights on it such as books to help it flatten naturally. Do not bend it in the opposite direction as this can cause creasing. Allow a few days for the certificate to fully unfurl. If you have ordered a frame, you can also place the certificate directly inside the frame to help flatten it.
REFUNDS, DAMAGES & SHIPPING DELAYS
What is your return policy?
As our products are customized and made to order, we do not offer refunds once your order has been shipped. We do not accept returns or exchanges. We reserve the right to refuse returns that do not meet our policy.
If you wish to cancel your order after it has been placed, we offer refunds with a retention fee based on the stage of processing:
If your order has been processed but not printed, a $10 USD retention fee will apply for the refund. If your order is in the embellishment or packing phase, a $70 USD retention fee will be deducted for cancellation.
Once your order has been received, refunds cannot be issued.
What happens if my order is delayed? Can I get a refund?
We carefully prepare and dispatch all orders within the production timelines stated on our website. Please note that shipping times begin once your order has been dispatched, rather than from the date of purchase, as each certificate requires a production period before it is ready to ship.
Once your order is with the carrier, delivery times may be affected by factors beyond our control, including carrier delays, customs processing, weather, or other transit-related disruptions. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds for delays caused during transit.
However, we're happy to work with you to provide alternative solutions where possible. If your shipment is significantly delayed, we can email you a PDF of our Wahaj design with all the same details from your original order. This PDF can be printed at your local print shop.
My order arrived damaged, what do I do?
If your certificate arrives damaged, please contact us within 7 business days of receipt with photos of the damage and your order number. This policy applies only to damage that occurs during shipping. We will promptly arrange a replacement.
